Per i pochi che necessitano di un promemoria, ecco alcune tracce audio di Johnny Spec & The Goggles, la band di tendenza che ha riscritto la storia del rock demenziale in Italia.

Come ben sanno gli storici della musica, non restano tracce audio dei concerti dal vivo del gruppo nato dall'estro creativo di Sergio Ardizzoni e subito giovatosi della mancanza di scrupoli di Cesare Brizio. Qui sono proposte tracce registrate in studio, alcune delle quali in due tempi distinti con overdub di Sergio su tracce di prova di Cesare, tra cui il trascinante "Gli Smargiassi", su testo di Stefano Fantoni. Queste tracce, marcate con la dicitura "studio overdub", sono riferite alla parte finale della meravigliosa storia di questi straordinari performer. Ma le testimonianze più genuine dello stile e del pathos del gruppo, del nitido chitarrismo di Sergio e del virtuosismo di Cesare al basso monocorde, vengono dalle Jam Session negli studi di Giampiero Biondi. Altri virtuosi che hanno legato il loro nome alla storia della band, comprendono Roberto Scardovi e Simone Brizio, senza dimenticare Massimo Calanca alla chitarra e Paolo Balboni alla batteria.
As is well known to historians of music, no audio tracks survived of the live concerts of the group born from the creative fancy by Sergio Ardizzoni and taking immediate advantage from the lack of scruples of Cesare Brizio. The tracks here proposed are studio recordings, some of which are in two separate phases with Sergio overdubbing test tracks by Cesare, including the enthralling "Gli smargiassi" (loosely translated with "The braggers"), with text by Stefano Fantoni. Those tracks, marked with the words "studio overdubs", refer to the final part of the wonderful story of this extraordinary performers. But the most genuine evidence of the group's style and pathos, of the sharp guitar playing of Sergio and the virtuosity of Cesare at the one-string bass guitar, come from Jam Sessions at Giampiero Biondi's studios. Other virtuosos who bounded their name to the band's history, include Roberto Scardovi (Guitar and Bass) and Simone Brizio (Keyboards), without forgetting Massimo Calanca at the guitar and Paolo Balboni at the drums.

Studio Overdub. Disco Cancrena è il perfetto frutto della creatività di Sergio, ed è certamente stato il maggior successo del gruppo. Sebbene ispirato alle tragiche vicende della ritirata italiana dalla Russia nella seconda guerra mondiale, è stato trasformato in un dissacrante brano di culto. "Ho provato a mangiarmi tutto il piede con la cancrena - era buono e saporito, quant'era dolce la mia cancrena!". Questa versione molto particolare è stata sovraregistrata all'audio di una partita di serie C. Musicisti: Cesare voce, tastiera e effetti, Sergio voce, chitarra, basso elettrico e effetti.
Studio Overdub. Disco Gangrene is the perfect result of the creativity of Sergio, and it's certainly been the most successful of the group. Although inspired by the tragic events of the Italian retreat from Russia in World War II, has been transformed into an irreverent cult song. "I tried to eat my whole foot with gangrene - it was good and tasty, how sweet it was, my gangrene!". This very peculiar version was overdubbed with the audio from a third division soccer match. Una serata assolutamente inimitabile. Il grande polistrumentista BGP al vibrafono e alla batteria Simone alle tastiere, Sergio alla chitarra, Cesare al basso monocorde, e se ricordo bene Roberto (che ha inventato il titolo, dedicato al Mostro Gaos) alla chitarra, per un brano strumentale da cui emerge in pieno il virtuosismo della band.
An absolutely inimitable evening. The great multi-instrumentalist BGP on vibes and drums, Simone on keyboards, Sergio at the guitar and Cesare at the one-string bass, and if I remember correctly Roberto (who invented the title, dedicated to the Monster Gyaos) on guitar, for an instrumental piece which fully shows the virtuosity of the band.

"Sono il nuovo Garibaldi" ha avuto molte versioni, e probabilmente questa è la prima. I cori di mia sorellina Orsola sono fuori sincrono perché la nostra moderna attrezzatura non comprendeva abbastanza prese per cuffia... Musicisti: Orsola voce, Sergio chitarra, Cesare voce e tastiera.
"I'm the new Garibaldi" had many versions, and this is probably the first. The choirs of my little sister Orsola are out of sync because our modern equipment did not include enough headphone jacks ... Musicians: Orsola voice, Sergio guitar, Cesare voice and keyboard.

Durante la jam session a casa di BGP, venne registrata anche una versione speciale di "Garibaldi", qui proposta a velocità normale e doppia. Gli esecutori sono gli stessi di "il Mostro Gaos". Nel corso della stessa sessione è stata aggiunta una seconda traccia per voce e per ogni strumento.
During the jam session at the home of BGP, a special version of "Garibaldi" was also recorded, offered here at a normal and double speed. The performers are the same as in "Monster Gaos". During the same session a further track was added, for voice and for each instrument.

Studio overdub. "Io sono Guido", nella versione originale di 47 minuti di durata elencava oltre 400 veicoli di cielo, terra e mare, ognuno seguito dalla dicitura "... io guido". La travolgente armonia si basa su un arpeggio ostinato su due accordi, Do Maggiore e Do Minore. Musicisti: Cesare voce, tastiere e effetti (sullo sfondo, pubblico di una partita di serie A).
Studio overdub. "Io sono Guido" ("I am Guido", quite a common name in Italy, but in Italian "guido" also means "I Drive"), in its original version lasting 47 minutes, listed more than 400 vehicles of sky, earth and sea, each followed by the words "... I drive." The overwhelming harmony is based on an arpeggio ostinato on two chords, C Major and C Minor. Musicians: Cesare vocals, keyboards and effects (in the background, the public of a premier league soccer match).

Per un breve periodo, i destini della band si sono intrecciati con quelli dell'oltraggiosa trasmissione "Happy Radio", trasmessa da Radio Città di Cento. Ancora oggi è difficile capire come sia stato possibile trovare qualcuno che mandasse in onda materiale tanto trasgressivo! Cesare Brizio legge con intonazione futurista una poesia di Simone Brizio, dedicata a personaggi Disneyan (la prima su Pippo, la seconda su Spennacchiotto) in quella che (non a caso...) sarebbe stata l'ultima puntata di "Happy Radio".
For a brief period, the fates of the band were intertwined with those of outrageous show "Happy Radio", broadcast by Radio Città di Cento. Even today it is difficult to understand how it was possible to find someone who would broadcast so transgressive material! Cesare Brizio reads with a futuristic tone two poems by Simone Brizio, dedicated to Disney's characters (the first is about Goofy, the second about Emil Eagle), in what (not by coincidence...) was the last broadcast ever of "Happy Radio".

Studio Overdub. Poesia e musica sono sorelle: quale migliore dimostrazione di questo arrangiamento della poesia "Gli Smargiassi" (che anni dopo avrebbe anche avuto una rappresentazione teatrale!) dell'amico Stefano Fantoni?
Gli smargiassi, gente comune, gente di strada, duri come massi. Al loro avvicinarsi i loro passi risuonano sui sassi.
Gli smargiassi: i loro passi per i vecchi son sinonimo di collassi.
I collassi non son niente per la gente, in confronto agli smargiassi!

Studio Overdub. Poetry and music are sisters, what better proof of this than this arrangement of the poem "The Smargiassi" (which years later was also staged by professional actors!) by my friend Stefano Fantoni? A loose translation follows.
"The Braggers, ordinary people, street people, hard as rocks. At their approach their steps echo on the stones.
The Braggers: their steps for old people are synonymous with collapses.
The collapses are nothing for the people, in comparison to the Braggers!"
